Black Coffee
Black Coffee
Something I started doing back in 2000. When I was training back for a marathon, it was a discipline I took on myself to get in the shape I needed and wanted to be in. I cut out sugar. Not all sugar, mind you, but enough to where I could really feel the difference. I cut out sugar in my tea and coffee and almost all soda, the one thing I had the hardest time parting with was ice cream. Now, when I say cut out, I’m talking about a moderation where it takes discipline to control the intake of certain indulgences. I do love it. I don’t eat it very often, once every several months. But when I do, it is a treat. The thing is, having that discipline helps build that experience to resist other temptations in life. It’s like exercising any other muscle.
Sometimes it takes sacrifice and removal of vices to get our bodies and minds on the right track. If you can start with just one little thing, you’ve already laid the foundation for bigger and harder things. The simplest of acts is what starts building the best of skills. You weren’t put on this earth to remain stagnant and balk in the face of challenge. It’s nothing short of a God-given gift to be able to apply yourself to your tasks at hand. If you aren’t willing to work hard, lose the sugar and drink the black coffee, then it’ll be that much harder to achieve your goals.
