Hang around those that lift you up

I’ve said before in one of my blogs that birds of a feather often flock together. Like most things in life, we get stuck with people whether we like it or not. However, we can pick the people we choose to spend time with. If you’re working hard on getting yourself in shape or training for a big event, you want to include yourself with people who are intent on improving themselves. It’s been said that if you want to be truly good at something, challenge the guy that’s better than you. Life and business work the same way. If you want to be successful (whatever success may mean to you), it’s important to spend time with people who feel the same way as you do, and work as hard as you do. It should be noted that these people should also encourage and push you to expand on your ideas of success, and challenge you to achieve a greater potential. By including these kinds of people in your life, your potential and outlook will change drastically for the positive. If you hang around with the best, they bring out the best in you. Misery loves company, if you fill your hours with unsavory activities, you’ll get dragged into their cycle of negativity.

Of course, this ideology applies to any concept. We see that young people are getting dragged out of their own interests to pursue destructive trends. We see our kids hanging around with damaged and dangerous people. I’m not saying that we should forsake people who may not be as well-adjusted as you are, or who are less fortunate, but we should take care not to let ourselves become caught up in the trap of self-destruction and inappropriate pastimes. Life is a constant effort to make ourselves the best version possible, so spend time with folks who are willing to invest in you as much as you’re willing to invest in yourself.
