Product of your surroundings

The nature versus nurture debate is an ongoing battle that has been raging for centuries. Within this intellectual war, lies a cold hard truth that we’re going to touch on for just a brief moment, if you’ll bear with me. In thinking about the phrase, “a product of your surroundings” we typically wonder about how people are influenced and changed based on their environment. We’re going to take a look at specifically how the work environment factors in. The company is a direct reflection of the man who sits at the head of the table. If you are such a man, you need to be aware of how your actions and your treatment of your employees reflects who you are as a leader and a man. If you are one given to screaming and hollering, you should make efforts to reevaluate how act and treat others, because the more inclined you are to abuse your employees, the more likely they are to abuse those around them in a similar fashion. If you create an environment in which you build them up and use more positive tactics to get results, you will find them equally amenable to the task.

If the expectations of the masses are mediocre at best, and they offer only the most unmotivated and bare minimum service, they will infect others with their attitudes. The cream will rise to the top and you’ll see who is dedicated, motivated, and hard working. Otherwise, you’ll see the layabouts and men who are just there for a paycheck sifting mindlessly through the day. They may come put in eight hours-ish versus the men who are out there working hard and making a real difference, putting in a solid eight hours and then some. To them, there is no grey in the black and white, it’s success or bust. It’s imperative to understand that even the simplest of actions can have a ripple effect on the rest of the pond. If you can’t be bothered to hustle or push yourself, don’t expect the others around you to pick up your slack.
