Reading

You either love it or hate it, but it’s one of the most beneficial things you can do. Reading can open the gateway to seemingly infinite knowledge or it can transport us from the dull monotony of our daily life to another world in an instant. Whether it’s reading an informative work or diving into a solid story, reading is one of the most basic methods of self-improvement. You can’t ever read enough, because there’s no such thing as too much. There is, quite literally, a book on every subject you can think of.

If you want to pick up a trade or expand on something else you are interested in, reading is the place to start. With technology as innovative as it is, you can easily find an article or book online. Most libraries offer digital editions that can be downloaded temporarily on any tablet device. Reading isn’t something reserved exclusively for the nerdier crowd, it’s an essential part to human development. Some just take a little while longer to acquire the taste. Regardless of how you choose to define the human experience, our personal growth helps solidify the legacy we leave behind. The pursuit of accolades, achievement, skills, and growth starts with our willingness to research and learn. We’re not all born readers, some of us prefer to learn through other means. Audiobooks and visual presentations of information are great tools to bridge the gap into reading.

There’s a joy that comes from the completion of a book and a joy that comes from amassing the skills and information over the course of a thousand guides and manuals. Each morning most of us grab our coffee, breakfast, and settle for some form of news. Maybe you turn on the TV, maybe you get on your phone. Regardless of how, we are constantly scavenging for information. By letting our brains go to waste and giving up opportunities we have to learn, we are doing ourselves a great disservice. There’s not much to be gained from time spent engaging in activities that further us from our pursuits, but so much we can learn and so many ways we can grow if we just pick up a book.
