The devil is in the detals

Details details, the world runs on details. Details define and illustrate everything you see and everything you do. In a construction business, they play such a crucial role that even missing the most minute detail can result in disaster. From the engineering aspect to the production and shipping aspect, if the details aren’t correct and confirmed, the whole process can be moot. Just the other day we were preparing an order when we get a call from a fellow asking when he could expect his delivery that day. Well, first off, when you don’t respond to the email confirming the date we’re going to assume that you didn’t have an issue with the date. You can say you never got the email all you want, but we know that’s not true. If you don’t confirm that detail with us, then yes, we’re going to miss it. Everyone struggles with details, but if you can’t handle the small stuff, who can trust you with the big stuff.

Everything in life takes work, and that includes taking notice of the details. You almost need to be obsessive compulsive about details when you’re working. Take notes, save emails, pay attention, and ask questions - these are all things you can do to help you get a better grasp on the details in your life. Organization and a willingness to look beyond the superficial to get a firm grasp on the material you are working with is what will set you apart from everyone else. There’s nothing more impressive and useful than a well-oiled memory. It speaks volumes about your ability to retain information, your commitment, and your abilities. If you neglect the details, they will come back to bite you. One missed note, one missed number, one missed date is all it takes to find yourself in a situation where it is hard to recover. Preparation sees a man succeed where unwarranted self-assurance would have him fail.
