I’ve got your front
I like to stress the importance of having people around you who support you and elevate you while pushing you to do your best. By surrounding yourself with people to help you maximize your potential, you’re creating a safety net. I’m sure you’ve seen in a movie or heard someone say “I’ve got your six” or “I’ve got your back.” It’s a common enough saying that boils down to someone who is trying to look out for you. Usually we hear it in war movies, action movies, or before department meetings that feature an angry manager looking to cast blame. It’s nice to have support, when someone is actually saying they’re looking out for people aiming to take you down from behind.
Personally, I’m looking to be the guy who says, “I’ve got your front.” I want to be the vanguard, the person who is trying to lead you through the unknown territory, covering you and looking for incoming fire as we push forward, together. I hope to be the kind of leader who can trust the people with me in the trenches to look out for me and each other as much as I look out for them. More than anything, there’s something to be said for the people who put themselves on the line to watch out for their companions. The Bible makes no mistake in mentioning how there is no one greater than he who lays down their life for their friends. Living in service and consideration of your fellow man is one of our highest callings. There’s something to be said for reaching the end of the journey and looking back together at everything you went through and conquered.
